This may be the ultimate battle between vacuum cleaner technologies. This is shaping up to be the thriller in the sitting room. First, we’ll take a glance at our contenders : the Oreck Classic XL and the dyson dc07 Animal Vacuum Cleaner. Weighing in at a featherweight 8 pounds, the Oreck Classic XL ( Extended Life ) is incredibly lean. This taut small vacuum is totally without pretense. Even the on-off switch is simply a straightforward rocker switch. The Oreck doesn’t come with any attachments. Descended from commercial vacuums, the Oreck Classic XL vacuum is completely dedicated to vacuuming floors, carpets and rugs. If you need to vacuum other things, you can get an Oreck handheld vacuum. Sometimes the Oreck and Oreck hand held vacuum are packaged together. T
One of the main features of these cleaners is the WindTunnel technology. Vacuums with this feature have dual air channels that open to catch waste without scattering it all around. WindTunnel technology is available for both bagged and bagless vacuums. The WindTunnel technology is understood throughout the world for giving these vacuums an additional cleaning boost : it seems as though there is no mess too large for the suctioning power of Hoover vacuums, and it is the WindTunnel technology that makes this possible . Therefore, this technology is meant to make cleaning that much more easy and more effective.
The first round test is for the Oreck XL and the Dyson DC07 to each make just one pass down the length of the carpet. The passes are made side-by-side on equally dirty strips of the rug. First out is the Oreck XL, it moves quickly down the fringe of the rug leaving it distinctly cleaner. It picked up a small thumb nail sized fuzz ball without any issue, but left one very small streak of mud that was plain on close investigation into the rug. The Oreck XL is light and straightforward to bump, but has a tendency to torque-steer to the right a little as it is pushed across the rug. Next up, is the Dyson DC07 Animal with a life-time ionic air purifier. The enormous vacuum looks is poised to make short work of the Oreck. It’ll vacuum a stripe of rug diagonally opposite to the Oreck XL’s 1st pass. The Dyson DC07 Animal roars to life and goes easily down the rug. rather than picking up the fuzz ball, the Dyson pushes it ahead with the low front acting like the cowcatcher on an old steam locomotive. The Dyson DC07 simply pushes the fuzz ball off of the rug.
This is a bagless vacuum cleaner, so it is basically ready to go right out of the box ( with very minor assembly ) and you are off and running with your vacuuming. There are no filters to block, and there is a guarantee when it comes to the suction of the device , so don’t be concerned about what you might be sucking up into the vacuum. The head swivels nicely to allow you to get it into confined spaces, and allows the maneuverability that everyone wants from their vacuum. Using it on both carpets and hardwood flooring, the Dyson DC18 runs awfully quietly, and doesn’t give off the loud sounds that you would expect from a vacuum with the power this one has. This permits it to work low to the ground to, so you can take it from the living room to the kitchen, and even into the rest room. The thinness of the vacuum permits you to work around ( and between ) furniture without having to move it all over the place, and allows the user the liberty of working quickly thru the cleaning process.
With the vacuuming complete, I stop and ask our committee of judges. The general feeling is that the Oreck XL is a better vacuum cleaner for surface mud, fuzz, and strings. At eight pounds, some of the judges truly appreciate the light weight of the Oreck XL and find it better to take up and down the stairs. While the exterior design of the Oreck isn’t as trendy as the prize winning Dyson design, the little Oreck is rough and makes the room look clean. Still, the judges are truly impressed by the amount of deep mud and dust the Dyson DC14 has sucked out of the rug. Overall , however , the American-made Oreck Classic XL wins our short vacuum cleaner confrontation.
