It seems that computers have become a part of our normal routine when it comes to shopping, banking, video and photograph uploads, communicating, and much more. The more we utilize computers in our lives, the more chance we have in becoming open to hackers or predators.
Some predators are in the business of stealing your identity and personal information so they can sell it, and others just want to use your computer as go through to attack someone else. It is good that there are several inexpensive ways we can have computer system security at our fingertips.
1. It is very important to get in the habit of backing up all your files and information stored on your computer and then keep it safe and available away from your computer.
2. Keep all your system’s software up to date and make sure to download all available updates once they become available.
3. Look into installing a good firewall package on your computer; not doing this will run you into a risk of having worms, viruses, trojans, malware, or adware. You can choose to have software or hardware firewall programs installed.
4. Often go through your browser settings as well as your email settings for top security. Hackers can often use Javascript and Active-X to get malicious programs onto your machines. Cookies are often harmless but they do keep a check on your movements and build up a profile. Keep your Internet security set to high.
5. Keep any anti-virus software, or spyware protection software set up to automatically download updates so you know you will always have the most up to date version available.
6. When you have email sent to you, do not open up the attachments even if you do recognize the address that sent it – these could be potential hazards. Be sure to just run it through your computer protection software.
7. If you are not familiar with where a program came from, do not run it. Some programs may appear to be a funny story or joke, so don’t feel you need to pass them on to friends or family.
8. If you are not using your computer, then turn it off, and make sure that it is disconnected from the network. If it is not connected it cannot be attacked.
Make Computer system security a habit. Let it happen without you even noticing, and you will be better protected.
